Okay, what I saw on the flower was a halo on the upper left side of the pedal, but not one on the right, so it looked like motion blur to my eyes, but I am not a pro. I will also "cheat" and say that the LEFT lens on one image is the RIGHT lens on the other image. The shutter speeds were wickedly fast, and for this shot, maybe 20 frames were made. A very saturated, "fine detail in the highlights" subject brings it out and it's characteristic for the lens. This is a good suspicion on the flower, and I wish that flower was motion blur or defocus - but it's actually just a veiling/glowey spherical aberration. So - for each of these - which is the Biogon? Which is the Summicron? Which do you prefer? These were chosen as representative of the characteristics I found with each lens, but by no means meant to comprehensively evaluate the goods, bads, and uglies of these lenses. Middle: Wide open, transitional areas Bottom: Wide open. I know it's important to show bokeh in context, but these crops show the out of focus areas from a pure rendering standpoint.

BOKEHS! Rendering of transitional zones, busy backgrounds and distant objects are a big part of the character of these lenses - and why we pay big money sometimes. Middle set: halfway between mid and corner frame. Which do you prefer? The images below were chosen from among 12 images taken with each camera, tripod-mounted. I'd like to share two comparisons that touch on two key stylistic components that are often important to Leica shooters. Shot about 1,000 frames with each - and I will not state my conclusions yet. Upon recommendation from a friend, I picked up a Zeiss Biogon 35mm f/2 for a while to compare. I have a 35mm Summicron f/2 ASPH in my stable.
